Unit Attendant  - MAP - Part Time

Through following the direction of the Senior Attendant and working collaboratively with a team; as a detox unit attendant, you have the ability to attend to the admission, care and discharge of the clients of the facility through creating rapport and establishing a trusted environment for clients through exercising inclusivity and cultural sensitivity with all interactions.  Furthermore, as a detox attendant, you will assist residents throughout the withdrawal stage and/or stabilization period. 

Ultimately, you will have the opportunity to provide support services for the effective functioning of the facility.


  • Grade 12 Education or equivalent required.
  • Social Service Worker Diploma an asset. 
  • Diploma in addictions or social services, lesser academic qualifications might be acceptable provided that they have completed the following courses
  • Integrating a Concurrent Disorders Approach into Withdrawal Management” on-line course offered by CAM (H)
  • “Fundamentals of Addictions” type course such as the on-line course by CAM (H)
  • Successful demonstration of leadership skills
  • Ability to work as part of a peer supervision model
  • Current certification in CPR and First Aid.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Non Violent Crisis Intervention type course (CPI)
  • Basic counselling and screening skills and the ability to observe and record appropriately.
  • Effective interpersonal/communication skills used appropriately in dealing tactfully and sensitively with clients, staff, and other professionals of the Centre
  • Telephone etiquette
  • Non-judgmental approach
  • Knowledge of WHMIS.
  • Awareness of the community network of treatment resources and Agencies providing social/health services to clients.
  • Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision in a fast paced/multi-task environment, and as part of a peer supervision model.
  • Demonstrated basic computer skills, such as Windows, Outlook and Word.
  • Ability to organize and manage routine and administrative tasks as outlined.
  • Ability to work flexible hours.
  • Class G driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract
  • Reliable attendance record.
  • Knowledge of the Ojibway language and culture would be an asset.
  • Previous experience working in a harm reduction environment
  • Previous experience working in a withdrawal management centre preferred.


Starting Salary:           As per C.U.P.E. 822 Collective Agreement - $24.0286 to $24.9337 per hour

Shifts: Vary according to operational requirements and may consist of day, evening, and night shifts, weekends and holidays.
