Experience as a Senior Accountant or Controller in the retail, distribution or construction industries is ideal but not mandatory.

The Controller is responsible for the accounting operations of the company including the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a providing a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company’s reported financial results and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles.


Responsibilities Include:

  • Manage the accounting department operations
  • Maintain and enforce a documented system of accounting policies and procedures
  • Design and implement the organization structure of the accounting department to ensure the company’s goals and objectives are achieved
  • Providing leadership for all policies and procedures and ensuring staff are efficiently undertaking all tasks and responsibilities
  • Issue timely and complete monthly financial statements
  • Oversee fleet insurance, property tax, fixed assets, and CAM reconciliations for property leases
  • Oversee capital asset depreciation schedules and journals
  • Research and resolve month end financial statement queries
  • Prepare special reports/analysis and communicate results to senior management
  • Prepare working papers and year end analytical overview associated with the annual Audit.
  • Manage the reconciliation all CND/USD bank accounts for three Companies and when required, follow up with managers to ensure errors are corrected
  • Oversee the analysis and reconciliation cash/cheque deposits from over twenty locations to ensure all balance with our ERP system and are supported with cash receipts
  • Prepare Gross Profit variance analysis and resolve low margin sales
  • Ensure GST and PST returns are accurately submitted for all three Companies
  • Ensure Bank Compliance Reports are prepared
  • Oversee all out bound wires and EFT’s
  • Oversee FX Trades and transfer of funds between Companies
  • Review 1st of Month Cheque Run and Manage additions/deletions
  • Work with Accounting team to ensure correct coding and posting of non-trade payables
