The Cost Accountant is accountable to the Manager, Cost Accounting and is responsible for supporting the operations teams for all aspects pertaining to purchasing and job processing while acting as the liaison between the vendor and all the relevant parties within Morguard.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. PURCHASING PROCESS OVERSIGHT & REPORTING
Responsible for supporting, and close collaboration with, the Operations and Accounts Payable teams for all purchasing related processes including all relevant reporting for the regional accounting and operations teams. Including:
  • Assist with closing any knowledge gaps relating to Purchase Orders (PO) and Invoice Register (IR) processing
  • Ensure transactions are accurately recorded to facilitate the monthly accrual process
  • Monthly pre-review of accrual exceptions to ensure accuracy in preparation for the GL Close
  • Regular review of in-progress or partially closed POs and recommend action if needed
  • Provide guidance for Operations for accurate expense coding and budget allocation for
  • assigned portfolio
  • Ensure accurate application of sales tax considerations
  • Efficiently and professionally attend to all vendor related matters internally and externally
  • Expert Concur knowledge to be able to assist the team if needed
  • Expert knowledge of the Morguard PPP policies and remain current with any updates
  • Responsible for providing monthly analytical reports and metrics as assigned
  • Supports various initiatives within the Cost accounting team by providing operational analysis
2. JOB COST PROCESSING & REPORTING
Provides guidance to the Operations teams with regard to job setup and categories. Responsible on a
defined period basis to:
  • Provide continual guidance to Operations regarding company procurement policies
  • Ensure that Budgets are setup in a timely manner
  • Ensure all contracts are setup in the system
  • Monthly WIP Analysis and reconciliation
  • Ensure that all Real Estate Commissions (RECs) are setup in a timely manner and resolve any pertinent issues requiring clarification
  • Review retentions and ensure timely release
  • Review commitments and provide reporting as needed
  • Prepare and provide relevant reports and schedules to facilitate decision making
  • Close jobs ensuring all checks are complete.
3. DESK-SIDE ASSISTANCE FOR OPERATIONS
Collaborate with Corporate training teams in all aspects and communicate any gaps and requirements for training materials. Attend all scheduled training sessions and be able to apply the knowledge received to provide deskside assistance as needed. Must remain up to date with changes and upgrades and be able to disseminate any newly acquired knowledge such as process changes and general ledger (GL) allocation changes.


Skills, Knowledge, Experience and Education
  • Diploma or Degree in Business Administration
  • Working towards CPA designation
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Office applications (Excel, Windows and SharePoint)
  • Solid understanding of accounting fundamentals.
  • Working Knowledge of Yardi 7S would be an asset.

  • Prior experience within the real estate industry is an advantage.
